The BabyChess XBoard Engine
===========================

The XBoard engine program is called `bbch'. You can use the engine
with XBoard on Unix and with WinBoard on Windows systems.

Running the engine
------------------

You don't have to start the engine yourself, XBoard or WinBoard
will do that. Unfortunately, XBoard and WinBoard differ in the way
you tell them which engine to run.

XBoard
......

To play a game against BabyChess start XBoard like this:

    $ xboard -fcp bbch

WinBoard
........

With WinBoard, add the line

    "bbch" /fd="C:\Program Files\BabyChess\bin\"

to the file `fcp.ini' in the WinBoard directory. The BabyChess engine will be
listed in the WinBoard startup dialog. Change the file name according to where
you installed BabyChess. You may want to add the same line into the file
`scp.ini', too. Versions of WinBoard older than 4.2 may not read the `fcp.ini'
file. You will have to enter the full path name of the engine in the startup
dialog.
