Playing on an ICS

As mentioned before KKFChess had played games on the FICS using Winboard.  I had not tried it on other ICS.

There are several configuration items that affect the way KKFChess' response to ICS events such as draw offers, end of game etc.  The Configuration section briefly explains the effects of each item.

End Of Game ICS Commands

After an end of an ICS game, KKFChess reads the "KKFSeeks.txt" file and select at random at most 3 lines to pass onto the ICS.  Lines that begin with an "*" are ignored and not included in the count.  As its name suggests these line should normally be "seek" commands for ICS but it can be anything you wish to send to the ICS.

After sending 3 commands from KKFSeeks.txt, the text given by configuration items ICS_A, ICS_B, ICS_C and ICS_D are sent to the ICS in the specified order.  Again these can be any ICS commands.

Adaptive Play

KKFChess has an adaptive mode which will weaken the program by terminating the search earlier than normal.  The adaptive logic is based on the rating of the opponent as received via Winboard.  The lower the opponent's score, the more likely the engine will terminate early - hence search less deep.

Automatic Game Save

A ICS game can be automatically saved, with or without scoring information (as PGN comments).  Engine won games are saved in the "KKFGames.pgn" file; engine lost games are in the "KKFLosses.pgn" file and aborted/adjourned games are in the "Unknown.pgn" file.  Separate directories are used for each chess variants.  Below lists the directory paths that will receive these files:

Variant Directory
Normal/Wild $SaveBase\normal
Suicide $SaveBase\suicide
Atomic $SaveBase\atomic
Crazyhouse $SaveBase\crazyhouse

$SaveBase is the base directory set by the configuration item "SaveBase".

Announcing ECOs

If enabled, KKFChess will announce ECO code and variation name to ALL players observing or playing the game on the ICS.  Of course, ECO codes are only valid for a normal game of chess.  The ECO codes are held in the "KKF_ECO.pgn" file with special tags.
